During this remarkable tour, Zappa and Beefheart, who had a long history together, finally hit the road as a duo for the first time since their high school days. While they had previously performed together sporadically and collaborated in the studio—such as Zappa producing Beefheart's eccentric masterpiece "Trout Mask Replica" and Beefheart lending his distinctive vocals to "Willie The Pimp" from Zappa's "Hot Rats"—this tour marked a new chapter in their artistic partnership.
